For the Love of Literacy "Pizza Plus Books" 2019 Event!

Pizza Plus Books Returns For the Fifth Year At the Loutit Library!
*********************************************************************************************

Joyful Noise Christian Childcare’s C-Fund is ready to give away many brand new books to young readers at the fifth consecutive “Pizza Plus Books” event on Wednesday, March 13th from 4:30-6:30 p.m., in program rooms A and B at Loutit District Library in Grand Haven!

No registration is necessary for the book fair, which is open to the public and will offer free books to underserved children from infancy up through eight years of age. Attendees can also enjoy a free pizza dinner from Domino’s as well as access to other early childhood resources.

“I have been able to help at the Literacy Event each year,” said Sue Sturgill, financial administrator of Joyful Noise Christian Childcare. “It is so heartwarming to watch the kids pick out their books! Reading is so important at an early age and I am very proud to help get books into children's hands.”

A 2005 High Scope learning study found that “the greatest amount of brain growth occurs between birth and age five” and that nearly all of the brain’s core structure has been formed by the age of just 3 years old. A strong foundation for literacy is developed at this time, and access to age-appropriate books is an essential part of that groundwork and a cornerstone of the Joyful Noise C-Fund’s Love of Literacy program mission. The C-Fund seeks to connect young children and families with not only high-quality books, but also early childhood resources to support lifelong learning.

Pizza Plus Books 2018 is Coming!

Free books with no catch from Loutit Library and the Joyful Noise C-Fund!

***********************************************

Joyful Noise Christian Childcare’s C-Fund is ready to give away many brand new books to young readers at the fourth consecutive “Pizza Plus Books” event on Wednesday, March 14th from 4:30-6:30 p.m., in program rooms A and B at Loutit District Library in Grand Haven!

No registration is necessary for the book fair, which is open to the public and will offer free books to underserved children from infancy up through eight years of age. Attendees can also enjoy a free pizza dinner from Domino’s as well as access to other early childhood resources.

“One of my favorite parts of our yearly event are the storytellers that read to the kids,” said Amanda Butcher, lead teacher of Joyful Noise Christian Childcare’s two-year-old program. “Even though the book fair is really busy and exciting, the children are always excited to listen to a story.”

The Third Annual "Pizza+Books" C-Fund Literacy Event is Almost Here!

For the third year in a row, Joyful Noise Christian Childcare’s C-Fund is giving away hundreds of brand new books at the “Pizza Plus Books” event on Wednesday, March 15th from 4:30-6:30 p.m., in program rooms A and B at Loutit District Library in Grand Haven.

WHEN: Wednesday, March 15th at 4:30-6:30 p.m.
WHERE: Loutit District Library, Program rooms A&B in Grand Haven, Michigan
WHO: Children from infancy to 8 years of age!

No registration is necessary for the book fair, which is open to the public and will offer free books to underserved children from infancy up through eight years of age. Attendees can also enjoy a free pizza dinner from Domino’s as well as access to other early childhood resources!

“One of the best parts of my year is watching the children come through the doors when we open the event,” said third-time event volunteer and early childhood teacher, Kelly Van Hook. “Seeing the brightness in the children’s faces and watching them try and decide between all of the great choices for books means so much to me.”

The National Institute for Early Education Research reaffirmed the importance of early childhood literacy with a study in 2016 linking the availability of reading materials and parent involvement with a successful reading outcome for children entering kindergarten and beyond. Providing access to age-appropriate books and nurturing parent and child reading relationships is a cornerstone of the Joyful Noise C-Fund’s Love of Literacy program mission.

The C-Fund seeks to connect young children and families with not only high-quality books but also early childhood resources to support lifelong learning.

Joyful Noise and Creative Curriculum

Click the image or here to view the Creative Curriculum Tour Guide!

In the 2015/2016 school year, thanks to $3000 of funding from the Joyful Noise C-Fund, Joyful Noise Christian Childcare was able to purchase and implement a standardized curriculum through Teaching Strategies called “Creative Curriculum.” This award-winning program is based on 38 learning objectives for early childhood development and education and is supported by current research and best practice. These objectives support evidence indicating future academic success in school.

The curriculum, which begins in infancy and carries through to kindergarten preparedness, is implemented in each classroom throughout the day in a variety of ways and learning areas.

Introducing a standardized curriculum into our program at Joyful Noise Christian Childcare was a step in not only supporting the best and most current teaching methods but also recognizing contemporary standards in excellence throughout the state of Michigan for licensed child care centers.

Learning objectives and lesson plans can be viewed in classroom monthly calendars by visiting the "Classrooms" tab above and viewing classroom blogs, which have additional resource links in the navigation headers (calendars, teacher biographies, and more.)

This year, our lead teachers will attend a 2nd Creative Curriculum conference in Holland from Great Start Readiness to explore more teaching techniques and proper utilization of the program's lesson plans.

Teacher training, along with classroom materials, is funded in part by the Joyful Noise C-Fund. Would you like to make a donation today?

Joyful Noise Childcare toddlers implement Language and Literacy lesson “LL39” by creating a texture board with materials of different textures (paper, fabric, wood, pom-poms) and glue.

Though the lesson is open-ended and allows for exploration, children are prompted to describe their experience and use simple language to increase their understanding.
